Description

A pan-Canadian delegation of TIIP members was delighted to meet with over forty representatives of the Social Innovation Caucus at a gathering co-convened by Senator Ratna Omidvar and Ryan Turnbull, Member of Parliament for Whitby, ON, both long-time proponents of federal measures to unlock the full power of the social economy.  The parliamentarians skillfully facilitated a lively discussion focused on the dramatic amplifying role of social finance in fuelling a robust, inclusive recovery, and nurturing communities whose greater resilience is rooted in more equitably experienced prosperity.

Three sessions included compelling lightning stories of community impact investment, a panel focused on the still-undeployed catalytic power of the federal Social Finance Fund first announced in 2018, and a panel on institutional investor confidence, to which Senator Tony Loffreda, as a former banker himself, was able to contribute insights regarding the growing interest in sustainable finance among large financial institutions, and surging public demand for impact investment opportunities in enterprises that simultaneously deliver social, environmental and financial returns.
